18 Dec Medulloblastoma, the most common malignant tumor in children
Medulloblastoma is one of the most common types of malignant childhood brain tumor.
According to studies, children have an advantage, and that is that children are more likely to survive a brain tumor than adults.
Children with brain tumors require special medical care because their brains and bodies are still developing.
Treatment will depend on the type, size, and location of the tumor and the general health of the child.
Treatment for medulloblastomas is usually a combination of surgery, radiation therapy (except in very young children), and chemotherapy.
The most common type of operation to remove a childhood brain tumor is called a craniotomy.
This procedure requires an incision in the scalp to remove a piece of the skull bone. After opening the skull, the neurosurgeon removes the tumor, or removes as much of it as possible, taking care not to cause damage to the brain.
